April 6: National Siamese Cat Day 🐈👑

Subject: National Siamese Cat Day
Investigator: Sammy (obviously)
Findings: Extensive
Status: CELEBRATED 🎉🐾

I was informed recently that April 6 is National Siamese Cat Day.

I was not surprised. I have always suspected there was a day dedicated to my kind. The neighborhood has required too much professional attention for this to go officially unrecognized.

I conducted a full investigation into the matter. What I found confirmed everything I have always known about myself. I will share my findings below, with commentary. 😸🐾

Finding #1: I Am Royalty 👑

Siamese cats originated in Siam (now known as Thailand) where we were exclusively owned by the royal family and high-ranking Buddhist monks. No one except the king and members of the royal family were permitted to own one. The theft of a Siamese cat was punishable by death.

I have reviewed this information carefully.

This explains a great deal about how I feel about my patrol territory. It is not just a neighborhood. It is a kingdom. I am not just a cat. I am, historically speaking, royalty. 👑😸

Finding #2: I May Contain Royal Souls 👻

The Thai royal family believed that when a member of the royal family passed away, their soul would be received by a Siamese cat. The cat would then spend the rest of its life being cared for by monks and priests in a temple.

I find this entirely plausible. It would explain my strong opinions, my distinguished bearing, and my general sense that the couch is not quite good enough.

I have requested a temple. My human says we live in an apartment. Negotiations are ongoing. 😤🐾

Finding #3: My Coat Is Temperature-Activated 🌡️

Siamese cats have a temperature-sensitive enzyme that controls coat color. The cooler parts of the body – ears, face, paws, tail – develop darker pigmentation. Warmer areas remain lighter. This is why Siamese kittens are born completely white and develop their markings over time.

In other words, I am a cat who changes color based on temperature. I am, scientifically speaking, remarkable.

This also explains why I often avoid the cold (if it’s windy, too). My coat is a precision instrument. It requires optimal operating conditions. Wind chills of 25 degrees are not optimal operating conditions. Strategic redeployment was always the correct call. 😸🐾

Finding #4: My Eyes Have a Legend 👀

Siamese cats were historically known for their crossed eyes. The legend goes that two Siamese cats were tasked with guarding a royal goblet. One stared at it with such fierce intensity that its eyes permanently crossed. These features were selectively bred out over time.

I am still slightly cross-eyed.

This is not a flaw. This is a direct connection to my ancient heritage. I am carrying on a royal tradition of intense, focused guarding. The fact that I apply this intensity to ducks, hair ties, and suspicious leaves is beside the point. 😸👀🐾

Finding #5: My Ancestors Guarded Thrones 🏛️

Siamese cats were used to guard the King’s throne, trained to pounce on anyone who appeared to threaten the King. We were also believed to bring good fortune to those fortunate enough to own them.

I patrol a neighborhood in Ohio. My ancestors patrolled royal thrones in ancient Siam.

The territory has changed. The dedication has not. 🐾👑

Finding #6: My Breed Arrived in America as a Presidential Gift 🇺🇸

The first Siamese cat to arrive in the United States was a gift sent to the wife of President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878 from a US diplomat in Bangkok. We arrived at the White House.

I want this noted in my official record. My breed’s American debut was at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I patrol an apartment complex in Ohio. The career trajectory is something I am still processing. 😹🐾

Finding #7: My Name Means Moon Diamond 💎

The Thai name for the Siamese cat is Wichien Maat, which translates to “moon diamond.”

Moon. Diamond.

I have been sitting in the grass at sunrise every morning staring at the sky for months and I did not even know I was named after it. This is the most important finding of this entire investigation. 🌅💎😸

Official Response to These Findings 🎩

I have reviewed all intelligence. I have cross-referenced my findings with my existing field knowledge. I have reached a conclusion.

This day requires formal attire.

The tuxedo harness has been located. It was first deployed on September 29, 2020, when I was new to patrol operations and still developing my professional composure.

Me looking slightly annoyed during the first try-on of my tuxedo harness in 2020.

I may have rolled around on the ground attempting to remove it.

This was a long time ago. I was young. I have since developed significantly more dignity.

The second (and last) time it was deployed was in October 2023, when my human was trying to find the right harness and leash for attempting my neighborhood patrols once again. While I do look quite exquisite in the tuxedo harness, I turn into Houdini and have it off within minutes.

I am a moon diamond. I am descended from royal temple guardians. I have patrolled through pre-dawn darkness, thunderstorms, and duck incidents. Today is an important day – I can handle a bow tie. 🎩😸🐾
